Updates on my professional activities

Navy Yard has a new blog page!

Some of the work of those of us who were visiting artists this first year of the artist residency at the Brooklyn Navy Yard is featured on this page:

My residency ends

I have uploaded new images to the urban gallery, though there is still a work in progress!  A largish oil painting that is another version of the view from the roof of building 280 just wasn't done when I had the work shot yesterday.  Hope to finish it in the next two weeks!

My residency will be coming to a close September 1

I have finished a few more works, and am just waiting to have them photographed until two more pieces are done.  I am working on an oil version of my view from Building 280 at the Yard, and have a large mixed media drawing of that view finished.  Once this ghastly heat abates--the forecasts say Sunday--I plan to return to the Hospital Annex at the Yard to begin the last pastel I have in mind.

Check back in September to see news of any exhibitions and to see the new images.

In truth, I could see finding another year's worth of work in the Navy Yard!  This year I feel I've scratched the surface of the possibilities.  But it will be time for the next crop of visiting artists to have a chance, so any of you who are interested should take a look at their website for application information:

Plein Air Workshop at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

The one-day workshop at BNY on June 22nd was on a pier with amazing water views of Manhattan, the East River bridges and sections of the working waterfront within the Yard.  Despite the lack of shade, participants produced terrific work, which the sponsor, Building 92 at BNY, found impressive.  I'd love to run another such workshop, perhaps earlier in Spring, when temperatures are kinder.

I have been able to get access to the roof of another building at BNY, and I've started sketching up there, trying to organize a composition for a bigger piece.  Here's one snapshot to give you an idea of how big this view is!
